Development so far
Hello all,
First of all let me apologize for not getting this post out sooner. I will be aiming to put out a new update every month on the 20th. With Christmas and some unexpected stuff going down, I just didn't have time to sit down and write.
Onto the post itself. This is a update to catch you (the reader) up on the progress I have made before creating this blog.
Story
So far I've decided on a protagonist (gender, name, etc), the location of the game's event, and the time period. I have created the intro (first few scenes and events) of the game to near completion, and I am now focusing my time on coming up with the later events, all the way up to the game's conclusion. I will be fleshing out various bits and pieces as I go.
I have also decided on how the game will end, and I have made very solid lore regarding the backstory and the five Ws (what, where, when, who, why). Additionally, I have also started working on other characters and how they fit into the overall story.
I want this game to be an experience for players, not just a story. I aim to give players no information going in (other than the game's premise), and I want to give them clues and hints as to the lore
Art style
The art style has stayed pretty much the same ever since the very first sprite i drew for this game. Though I have recently decided on a final version. Objects and structures will be orthographic, with an illusion of 3D depth. However character and background elements will be flat. This will (hopefully) help viewers focus on the important things, and not make their eyes wonder all over the screen not knowing what to look at. Foreground elements will also be flat.
In terms of texture, background and foreground elements will have none, and be made of solid colors.
Here is a simple representation of what all the different scene components will look like in the game:
I know it may not look that good, I did just whip this up very quickly. It should at least help you visualize what the game scenes will look like in terms of art style.
That's it so far. Though I promise as shallow as this may look, the actual contents of the story could make this post ten times longer. Eventually I hope to start sharing those contents, especially as I come closer to finishing the game.
